Huasos

I arrived in southern Chile on the day of the 2010 earthquake, and I was surrounded by Huasos—fearless horsemen defined by courage, skill, and unshakable solidarity.
From boyhood, a Huaso learns by watching elders handle horses and cattle, absorbing stories, movements, and maneuvers. The Rodeo is their proving ground, where tradition becomes sport, and mastery is earned.
A Huaso and his Chilean horse share a bond built on trust, patience, and instinct. The horse, forged by rugged terrain, mirrors its rider—tame yet explosive, enduring yet precise.
Each spring, Huasos drive their herds through mountains and valleys to distant grazing lands, navigating rivers, rocks, and wild landscapes. To ride in the Cordillera is to embrace a life of skill, resilience, and honor—where every moment demands courage, and every choice matters.
